Opolot William, a 44 year old resident of Adyel Kasubi, Lira Municipality worked as a supervisor at an Electric Company since 2013 and had salary arrears amounting to 3,773,000 shillings.

He and a group of 10 colleagues before coming to PLA hired a private lawyer at a fee of 1,000,000 shillings to handle their issue of non-payment. The process got costly along the way as the lawyer kept demanding for more money. They were then advised by a past PLA client to seek legal aid at PLA and in April 2018, a file was opened.

The employer was called for mediation and he agreed to pay the money in 2 installments. The first installment was paid in November 2018 and the second in January 2019.

I used part of the money to pay off debts that had accumulated and school fees for my children. I also bought a second hand motorcycle at 900,000 shillings which I use for transport. I plan to use the balance to plant 500 pine trees in Kole to secure the future. I am very grateful to PLA for enabling me access justice and urge them to continue with the good work because many workers lack legal representation.” Opolot William
