The just concluded 108^th Session of the International Labour Conference held at the International Labour Organisation (ILO) headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland closed with the adoption of a landmark International labour Standard.

While the International Labour Organization is celebrating 100 years of advancing social justice and promoting decent work, 152 million children are still in child labour. Child labour occurs in almost all sectors. 7 out of every 10 of these children are working in agriculture.

Obstetric fistula is one of the most serious and tragic injuries that can occur during childbirth. It is a hole between the birth canal and the bladder or rectum caused by prolonged, obstructed labour without treatment. 

Uganda will on 1st May 2019 join workers around the world to celebrate the International Labor Day in Agago District.

Hon Agnes Kunihira-Workers MP, seeks leave of Parliament to table a Private Members' Bill entitled "Employment (Amendments) Bill 2019.

The object to the Bill is to amend the Employment Act in order to  specifically make provision for the regulation of domestic workers in Uganda so as to improve their working conditions, to provide for the protection of rights of domestic workers; to provide for the welfare, protection and security of domestic workers, to provide for compulsory registration of recruitment agencies, to prohibit discrimination against breast feeding mothers, to encourage employers to put in place policies and where possible facilities for breast feeding mothers and  to provide for the conversion of casual employment to contract of service.

Today Uganda has joined the rest of the world to commemorate World Cancer Day 2019.

Cancer is one of the vicious diseases killing tens of people in the country. According to the Uganda Cancer Institute (UCI), the country registered 32,617 new cancer cases and 21,829 deaths in 2018.

A total of 87 District Labour Officers  (DLO) have implored Parliament to amend the Employment Act 2006, to address loopholes in the law. According to the labour officers, the current law doesn’t effectively address labour related issues in the country. 

“We call up on the legislators to make laws that make it compulsory for every employer to establish a breast feeding centre to enable mothers support proper early childhood development,”
