Every hour of the day someone in the world is being laid off or declared redundant in the formal or informal sector. The effects of unemployment in the developing world can be devastating.

The level of dependence on one or very few income earning family members is extremely high so unemployment of a single person often means the ruin of a whole family, in many cases right through to extend family members. Job security is a vital component of developing communities and improving the prospects of individuals in Uganda.

Families need to earn a living in a safe environment, save and develop in order to prosper. The lack of security in the work place can therefore lock communities and individuals into a cycle.
